Spring Allergies and Natural Actives

Spring is here! For many, it means a fresh start, the arrival of warmer weather, and the return of sunshine. But for others, it also means the arrival of spring allergies. Sneezing, conjunctivitis, asthma, and rhinitis can make life difficult for those allergic to pollen, dust, and other allergens.

Fortunately, there are natural ways to relieve the symptoms of spring allergies. Here are some of the most effective natural remedies for reducing spring allergies.

Quercetin

Quercetin belongs to the flavonoid group, natural plant pigments that give color to flowers, fruits, and vegetables. It is found primarily in foods such as apples, onions, capers, garlic, lovage, green vegetables like broccoli, and citrus fruits.

Numerous studies have highlighted its antioxidant, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce the symptoms of spring allergies.

In the case of seasonal allergies, it is therefore advisable to consume foods rich in quercetin. Supplementation may also be considered depending on individual needs.

Ribwort Plantain

Often considered a weed, ribwort plantain is actually one of the essential plants for allergy sufferers. This perennial plant, easy to gather, has antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, and antitussive properties, thus soothing skin, respiratory, and eye inflammations. Furthermore, its use in herbal medicine is very well tolerated and has no specific contraindications.

It can be used in various forms: mother tincture, standardized plant extract, infusion, syrup, or even its leaves can be enjoyed in salads to further benefit from its minerals and vitamins. For a comprehensive effect, combining it with desmodium is particularly beneficial.

Desmodium

Native to Africa, this plant is now well-known for its liver-protective properties, but it also possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties by inhibiting histamine release, according to some scientific studies. It may also help to effectively relieve asthma attacks through its airway-relaxing action.

Rich in flavonoids and tannins, desmodium is generally used as a decoction (use 10g of plant for 1L of water) or as a dry plant extract to be taken for a minimum of 3 weeks to observe the effects.

The Nettle

Nettle is a plant that has been used for centuries in herbal medicine for its antioxidant, remineralizing, and anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as an antihistamine and can therefore be very helpful in relieving spring allergies.

It can be used whole, in soup, juice or in the form of herbal tea, mother tincture or plant extract, from the first signs of illness.

The blackcurrant bud

A star of gemmotherapy, blackcurrant bud is well known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and draining action. It is particularly suitable for all types of allergies (skin, respiratory, or food).

It also enhances the effects of other buds. In the case of spring allergies, its combination with Viburnum bud is very beneficial.

Perilla Complete Oil

Complete perilla oil is a combination of vegetable oil from the seeds, rich in omega 3 including alpha-linolenic acid, and perilla essential oil, rich in rosmarinic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and immune system modulating properties.

This complete oil is consumed in capsule form as a preventative measure one month before the arrival of pollen or as a curative measure from the first symptoms.

Tarragon essential oil

Among essential oils, some are particularly beneficial for relieving inflammation and irritation of the respiratory tract. Tarragon essential oil is notably known for its antispasmodic and anti-allergic properties. Eucalyptus radiata essential oil is also beneficial for its effects on the ENT (ear, nose, and throat) and respiratory systems.

A synergy can thus be created using these essential oils and black cumin vegetable oil, also known for its antihistamine properties, which can be applied locally to the chest as a preventative measure or to calm allergy symptoms.

These natural ingredients can provide real relief from symptoms and prevent their appearance, but it is also important to treat the cause of these allergies and support your liver and intestines, as the intestinal lining plays an essential role in the proper functioning of the immune system.
